Are you interested in becoming a foster parent/family for our furry friends?

By being a foster parent you agree to keep the pets in your home, while giving them love and general care, until they are ready to be put up for adoption. Adoptions are only approved and completed through the shelter. Food and medical care for the foster pets will be provided by the Shawano County Humane Society. If the pet you are caring for is in need of medical care, the contract you will sign states that you must first contact our shelter director or her assistant before transporting them to our approved veterinarian. Foster pets benefit greatly from the individual attention and learn to thrive in a caring, loving family environment.

Some Words From Our Foster Families

Kitten Fostering

If you love kittens (and who doesn't?) fostering could be for you. Our family has been fostering kittens for three years. In those three years we have taken care of over 40 kittens. Feeding, washing and cleaning up after kittens is a big job! My kids do most of the work with the kittens on their summer break.
It is a labor of love for us. Foster kittens see humans as their mom and crave human attention. They become great snugglers and that is a nice trait they do not outgrow!
Our foster kittens become our babies and we do get attached to them. We took baby pictures of all of them! It was extremely difficult to take our first litter back to the humane society. But we soon learned there would be more kittens to take their place. During "kitten season", which is usually in the spring and summer, there are usually many litters that need foster care.
We have met several of the people who have adopted our former foster kittens. It is so rewarding to see them go to their fur-ever families and know that we played a part in that. We have enjoyed fostering and will continue to do so. Maybe you should consider fostering too.

"As a foster family, we have been able to love, care for, and enjoy Kelly and her babies as if they were our own. Although it may be difficult when it comes time to say goodbye, we will know that we are only saying goodbye because they have all been adopted into a loving family to call their own. It has given us a chance to teach our children the importance of volunteering, compassion for animals and responsibility and is truly the most rewarding work we could ever imagine. Knowing that we have freed up space in the shelter to allow another homeless dog a second chance makes it all worth it as well. I would strongly recommend anyone with the time and love to devote to these animals to apply to be a foster. All the staff at SCHS has been wonderful in answering our foster questions and providing us with all the means to care for the pups as well. Thank you SCHS for taking a leap of faith in us and allowing us to be your first doggy foster family and we look forward to a long volunteer relationship with you."
